Wesleyan Baseball Player Matthew Jeye Earns NESCAC Player of the Week Honors

2018 Mar 29

After going 10-for-22 at the plate with 14 RBIs, eight runs, two doubles, a homer and a triple during five games this last week in Tucson, Ariz., senior Matthew Jeye of the Wesleyan University baseball team was named NESCAC Baseball Player of the Week for the first time in his career on March 26.

Jeye exploded with eight RBIs, four runs, a three-run homer and a double, to go along with a 3-for-5 performance in the batter's box during a 28-12 win over Oberlin in eight innings on Wednesday. The home run was the sixth of Jeye's outstanding four-year collegiate run, and the 28 runs were the most scored by Wesleyan since it defeated Wentworth, 30-0, on March 31, 2000.

The Holliston, Mass. native then filled up the scoresheet again, registering a 3-for-5 performance, along with five RBIs, a triple, a double and a run, as the Cardinals put a stamp on their spring trip with a 14-5 triumph over Wisconsin-Superior on Friday.

Jeye also contributed with a pair of singles and two runs during a 7-1 win over Allegheny in seven innings during the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

During the entire 2018 season, he has compiled 18 RBIs, 17 hits, 15 runs, two triples, two doubles and a home run, to go along with a .565 slugging percentage, a .475 on-base percentage and a .370 batting average.
