Ted Bergman Named Men's Lacrosse All-American

2017 Jun 1

Ted Bergman was one of seven men's lacrosse players to be named on the USILA/Nike All-America Teams. Bergman received First Team honors.

"I am extremely proud of all the players that were named to the All-America Team this year," said head coach John Raba. "Any time that you have seven players named to the All-American Teams, that means you've had a tremendous year, in which they all did. And all the guys that were named are tremendous workers and leaders as well."

The only team to place more players on the list is No. 1 Salisbury University, with 10 All-Americans, while No. 2 RIT and No. 8 SUNY Cortland each had seven, and No. 3 Bates had six. The seven All-Americans for Wesleyan are the most in program history.

Bergman, who was also named First Team All-NESCAC and First Team All-New England, enjoyed a breakout senior campaign in which he led the conference in goals-against average (9.45) and saves (241). He started all 22 games for Wesleyan between the posts, and logged 1251:15 minutes, while posting a 55.0 save percentage. Bergman and the Cardinals' defense held opponents to single-digits in 15 of their 22 games.

As a team, the Cardinals reached new heights in 2017. Wesleyan won 20-straight games from March 8-to-May 17, which marked a program record and the longest win streak in the nation, in all divisions. The Cardinals' 20 overall wins are the most ever, while the team's nine regular season NESCAC wins marked the most in program history. The Cardinals also claimed the NESCAC Championship for the second time, and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009. Including the postseason, Wesleyan finished an incredible 14-1 against its conference opponents from the ultra-competitive NESCAC. The Cardinals went 3-1 in the NCAA Championships, their most wins ever in the postseason, en route to a semifinal appearance for the third time in program history. Wesleyan also finished as unanimous 2017 New England Champions, and ranked No. 4 in the country - its highest ranking ever.
