Clara Nachmanoff Helps Wesleyan Volleyball Rally to Defeat Tufts, 3-1, in NESCAC Title Game Sunday

2017 Nov 6

The second-seeded Wesleyan University volleyball team fell behind 1-0 in the NESCAC title game on Sunday to top-seeded Tufts at Cousens Gym in Medford, Mass., but the Cardinals swung back and won three sets in a row, claiming a 3-1 victory.

Clara Nachmanoff played a crucial role in the comeback, as Wesleyan hoisted its first-ever NESCAC Championship.

With the win, the Cardinals (21-5, 8-2 NESCAC) earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament, as they will compete on the national stage for the first time since the 2001 season.

The Cardinals have witnessed an outstanding turnaround over the last couple years under third-year head coach Ben Somera, as the 2016 squad qualified for the conference tournament for the first time since 2010. This fall, the Cardinals hit the ground running, opening up with eight straight victories, while boasting an 8-2 mark in conference action.
